Carnival

Carnival

The Venice Carnival is a time of celebration dating back more than 900 years ago, during which we enjoyed and celebrated with dances and music. Wearing masks and costumes, to completely hide their identity, the population was freed from their daily routines and all the prejudices. To date, this disguise is the essence of the carnival, with the passing of the years has made Venice the commercial heart of masks and costumes.
The carnival lasts for about eleven days in coincidence with the pre-Easter period with the beginning of the previous Saturday at the "Shrove Tuesday" to end with the "Shrove Tuesday". Even today, the Carnival of Venice is a popular event to a wide audience of all ages, giving rise to festivals, camps, squares and all kinds of events, animating the days with the many groups of masks and tourists from all over the world. In addition to these official holidays, even today, as in the past, we organize private parties and masked balls at the earliest Venetian palaces reliving the wonderful tradition of the Carnival of the past.
Among the events to remember, during the period of Carnival, there's "The Feast of Marie", a parade of twelve local beauties, with the election of Mary of the year and the "Angel Flight" which decrees officially the opening of the Carnival of Venice.
